Implant Therapy in the Periodontally Patient

It is commonly said that periodontal therapy is a comprehensive (multidisciplinary) therapy.

I am keenly aware of this when treating moderate to severe periodontitis, which, unlike early-stage periodontitis manageable only with basic periodontal therapy, requires corrective/oral recovery therapies combined with various other treatment options, such as periodontal surgical interventions, prosthetic/orthodontic therapies and implant therapy.

Among these, implant therapy is an essential oral recovery therapy option. On the other hand, growing evidence has shown that “periodontal hyper responders” have a higher rate of complications after implant therapy and tend to have a lower success rate compared to non-periodontitis patients.

Not only proper preoperative diagnosis and treatment techniques, periodontological considerations are also essential for safer and more durable implant therapy.

In this presentation, I will talk about challenges in performing implant therapy in periodontally compromised patients and their solutions while presenting some clinical cases I experienced.
